In other words, the available evidence is insufficient to generate consensus regarding the real effects that FWAs will have in Chile.
We need to close this gap and produce the scientific evidence that is lacking.
A survey will be administered to a sample of 2,000 employees working in companies with and without the reduction of the workweek to 40 hours. This survey will be conducted four times with the same group of individuals and will allow us to assess changes in our three areas of interest: labor relations, family dynamics, and political and community participation.
Semi-structured interviews will be conducted with a sample of 60 workers, who will be re-interviewed on three additional occasions throughout the study. This technique aims to analyze the impact of FWAs on individuals’ expectations and aspirations regarding the distribution of domestic and care work, as well as on their family relationships and leisure time.
A childcare network questionnaire will be administered to a sample of 60 workers, which will be repeated with the same sample on three additional occasions during the study. The objective is to identify the networks formed around childcare and their possible reconfiguration as a result of the implementation of FWAs.
This tool aims to record in detail how individuals allocate their time throughout the day. It will be administered to a sample of 60 workers twice per year (one weekday and one weekend day), over two years. In total, each participant will complete the diary on four occasions, allowing us to analyze changes in time use over the course of the study.
